The design extends and modernised a typical Sussex suburban house in Hove in a modestly contemporary but contextual way, resolving the integration of new architectural additions and environmental upgrades. The design works to maintain and enhance the existing noteworthy architectural elements, in this case, principally the front elevation brickwork and form of the building, whilst integrating modern elements that would not look out of place with the Sussex vernacular.

Sussex Heritage Person of the Year Award
Winner
Trevor Nash
This person has been driven by great determination, strength of character, physical fitness and ability to learn from, and use the skills of, others who may have more expertise than him.
In addition he is extraordinarily talented at fund raising, both from outside bodies and by his own initiative, when he often couples money raising for this particular project, with 50% for another village activity such as the local school.
He has a loyal following among his group who volunteer their time at least once a month. This person, by contrast is on the case constantly. Without his kind of hands-on vision and leadership, this project would never have seen completion.
The inception and management of the Rudgwick Biodiversity Project was entirely the idea of this person.
He lives on the fringes of fields that have been neglected for at least 50 years and were overgrown with brambles and other impenetrable vegetation.
He hit on the idea that a group could be formed, with the Parish Council’s agreement as owners of the land, to open up, conserve and manage the linear woodland and stream; improving public access, establishing educational activities and working with the local community groups.
In essence, that is what this project is all about.
Nominated by The Rudgwick Preservation Society
