Sussex Heritage Trust Awards 2010
The annual Sussex Heritage Trust Awards are designed to recognise and reward conservation, restoration and good design of new-build together with encouraging the use of traditional skills and crafts.
A wide variety of projects have received Awards including conversions of redundant rural and town buildings into offices, tea rooms and retail; large country houses converted into luxury apartments; restored church spires and glass windows; preserved museums; reclaimed gardens and a derelict water mill restored back into working order.
There are eight categories of Awards and the winners receive a hand crafted slate plaque to be attached to the building. There are also Highly Commended winners and all parties involved in the winning projects receive Certificates.
The Building Crafts Award and the Sussex Heritage Person of the Year Awards are presented to people rather than projects.
The judging teams comprise a Sussex Heritage Trust Trustee, a professional in the appropriate field and a "lay person" to ensure a balanced view. All are volunteers and receive no payment. The criteria include the project’s suitability of purpose, the best use of the site, the quality of workmanship and suitability of materials used.
