Over the past 12 years, Sussex Heritage Trust has received 631 entries and presented 151 hand crafted slate plaques with 134 Highly Commended Certificates. A huge variety of projects of all sizes have received Awards, including a restored garden path at a Listed villa in Hove, a new Horse Breeding Stud near Billingshurst, barns renovated into private residences and offices, large country houses converted into luxury apartments, restored churches, new stained glass windows, refurbished hotels and reclaimed gardens. The Building Crafts Award and the Sussex Heritage Person of the Year Awards are presented to people rather than projects. There are eight categories of awards and there is no overall winner, as the projects are not judged against each other but on their own individual merits. The judges will be looking to see if the project suits its stated purpose, if the best use of the site has been made, the quality and suitability of the materials used and the overall quality of workmanship. The judging teams comprise a Sussex Heritage Trust Trustee, a professional in the appropriate field and a "lay person" to ensure a balanced view. All are volunteers and receive no payment. A team of judges visits all qualifying entries. The winners will be announced and presented at the awards lunch on Thursday 9th July at Farbridge, Preston Farm, West Dean, Chichester, West Sussex, PO18 0JT (adjacent to West Dean Gardens)
