There has been great diversity of projects that have received awards including the restoration of a flint wall and path, a refurbishment of a large Listed Pumping Station to provide housing for the disabled, a new motor car factory, a restored theatre, stained glass windows, new-build houses and offices and a new Library in a Conservation Area.
The Building Crafts Award and the Sussex Heritage Person of the Year Award are presented to an individual rather than a specific project. There is no “best” overall winner as projects are not judged against each other but on their own individual merits and awarded in recognition of achievement of the final result. The judges will be looking to see if the project suits its stated purpose, the quality and suitability of the materials used, the standard of finishes and if the best use has been made of the site and finally the overall quality of the workmanship.
Judging teams comprise a Sussex Heritage Trust Trustee, a professional in the appropriate field and a ‘lay person” to ensure a balanced view. All are volunteers and receive no payment. All suitable entries are viewed on site.
